On the cancellation of Alcatraz
I know FOX wasn’t thrilled with the ratings on Alcatraz and that seems to be why it was axed. But you’re talking about a show where it seemed — at least in my area — to get minimal advertising to build up excitement for it (some friends didn’t even know it existed, others heard by word-of-mouth but didn’t know when it would be starting). And then episodes were aired out of order due to a NASCAR rain out the previous Sunday and it became a bit of a quagmire. So, yeah, of course the viewership for the finale was low.
It seems to me, however, that there are a good number of outraged or hurt fans right now. Some people watched every week, hungrily anticipating the next episode and feeling their head explode at what we all thought was the season finale. Others caught it on the Internet or on the late night reruns FOX did… reruns I didn’t know about until I idly flipped through channels one night. Although it might’ve been a slow process to get here, I believe Alcatraz now has a solid fanbase and our show’s just /over/ now? What? What are we supposed to do with that? What do we do now?
