Fledgling Attempt

“Jack Sylvane was just the beginning”

Yup. Still miss Alcatraz. Still miss Emerson Hauser.

I miss this show. Also, it makes me wanna RP as BAMF!Sam Neill. But, yeah, Alcatraz. Miss that.

Review

I’ve looked over my Tumblr as it exists so far: what I’ve chosen to say, picked to reblog, thought was interesting enough to share with the class.

The results? I look at a lot of bookshelves and libraries. I’ve spent a fair chunk of time messing with GetGlue (which is fine as I collect stickers). Cleverness and art are both important to me. I preach tolerance and patience. I think about fandom more than I believed I did. I still care about Alcatraz being cancelled. If it applies to me and you ask me to reblog, there’s a chance I’ll do just that, even if later I’ll go, “What was that from again?”

And ‘Garfield minus Garfield’ is my comic jam.

(Note to self: now would be a good time to stop calling whatever I like ‘my ____ jam.’ Unless it’s an actual jam flavor.)

A Hmong tribesman I watched die in the jungles of Laos,
told me a story about a giant eagle who agrees
to fly two men to a moon made of gold.
The men get greedy,
one kills the other,
and then the eagle eats the survivor in disgust.
All Hmong fables are about the futility of being human.

Yes, I’m re-reblogging this quote. It’s stuck in my head.

On the cancellation of Alcatraz

I know FOX wasn’t thrilled with the ratings on Alcatraz and that seems to be why it was axed. But you’re talking about a show where it seemed — at least in my area — to get minimal advertising to build up excitement for it (some friends didn’t even know it existed, others heard by word-of-mouth but didn’t know when it would be starting). And then episodes were aired out of order due to a NASCAR rain out the previous Sunday and it became a bit of a quagmire. So, yeah, of course the viewership for the finale was low.

It seems to me, however, that there are a good number of outraged or hurt fans right now. Some people watched every week, hungrily anticipating the next episode and feeling their head explode at what we all thought was the season finale. Others caught it on the Internet or on the late night reruns FOX did… reruns I didn’t know about until I idly flipped through channels one night. Although it might’ve been a slow process to get here, I believe Alcatraz now has a solid fanbase and our show’s just /over/ now? What? What are we supposed to do with that? What do we do now?

These things are a start but there must be more we can do. Thoughts?
